METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing gum from concrete usually depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface yet, we might be able to get it off by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a gooey and sticky mess. Once the chewing gum is frozen, we slide a putty knife or scraper directly under the gum. Then we slide the scraper slowly beneath the gum and the whole piece should then peel right off of the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is smashed deep down into the concrete, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal, we won’t use high pressure because that might harm the surface of the concrete!

Our crew never uses more pressure than needed to safely clean commercial concrete surfaces. These surfaces can be destroyed much easier than most people think, especially if they’re only 1-2 years old. Concrete can require up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional gum removal professional.
